Revamp brings new look for Star City Casino in Sydney

Over the next few months the directors of Tabcorp’s Star City Casino complex in Sydney will announce the new retail tenants to move into the revamped precinct, which is being redeveloped to the same standard as Melbourne’s Crown Casino, with boutiques and restaurants outside the casino.

The $860M redevelopment of the Star City complex will add a five-star boutique hotel; a 16-room spa; an entertainment and events centre; more than 20 restaurants, bars and cafes and upgraded entertainment and gaming facilities.

The focus is on attracting well-known names and upmarket fashion stores to make the new look area of the casino a destination for entertainment, without patrons having to enter the gaming areas. The main gaming floor and new top end restaurants will face the city skyline, giving customers one of the best views of Sydney.

Star City’s managing director, Sid Vaikunta, wants the new area to be a collection of stores and signature restaurants, rather than be considered a shopping mall. Two international chefs already signed up are David Chang, head chef and owner of New York's Momofuku, and Chase Kojima, the former executive chef at Nobu in the Bahamas. Australians Teage Ezard, Stefano Manfredi and Adriano Zumbo are among the top chefs offering a variety of ''new culinary experiences'', Mr Vaikunta said.

Tabcorp’s chief executive of casinos, Larry Mullin, said the interest the project was generating among domestic and international partners, for restaurants, nightlife, retail and entertainment, was a sign of its potential. It is anticipated the 700 new jobs will be created when the work is completed.
