TAB – Stands for Totalisator Agency Board. Body appointed to oversee betting made away from the race course in relation to horse racing
Table Hold – Total amount of cash won from players by a table game in a casino over a shift of eight hours
Table Stakes - Stakes within which the betting and raising is limited to the amount of cash a player actually has on the table in front of him in poker
Taking the Odds – A form of betting - In typical casino games the player is 'taking the odds' in betting an amount of cash which less than they will get back – ie if you bet $1 and you win, your winnings will be more than $1
Tapping Out – A player 'taps out' if they are forced to stop playing because they have lost their entire gambling fund
Tell Play – Examining someone's expressions to gauge what kind of concealed card they have – can apply to scrutinising the dealer in blackjack or to watching poker players – a 'tell' is a noticeable give-away, such as raised eyebrow
Third Base - The position closest to the dealer's right hand, - the last place played before the dealer plays his hand
Third Street - The first round of betting in seven-card stud, so called because all players have three cards
Three-Card Monte - A three-card game, reminiscent of bragg
Three of a Kind – Three cards of equal value in poker, ie three kings
Ticket - A card
Time Cut – Cash charged to each player according to playing time by the casino or by who owns the poker room, often charged in three minute or hourly blocks
Toke – A tip given to the dealer, short for 'token'. Someone who does this heavily is known as a 'George'
Token – Casino coins issued to play slot machines instead of real coins
Touch Wand – Pointing implement used to select numbers on a Keno video screen
Tournament – Game held between a number of players over a number of rounds or a time period. For example, in a poker tournament a number of players take part until only one person is left with chips and is the winner. Such tournaments may involve a buy-in
Trips – Three cards which are all the same value
True Odds – The genuine odds of something happening, factoring in the edge the casino has
Underlay – An event which has a significant amount more cash bet on it happening than can be justified by the probability of it happening – ie a bad bet
Unit or Betting Units – Used to describe the smallest amount of money used in betting which may be non-related to the actual cash value, ie someone's chip bet may be $10 but to simply matters it can be referred to as one unit
Up Card or Upcard – The dealer's initially visible card in his or her two-card blackjack hand. The card which is concealed until player betting is complete is called the 'hole card' or 'down card'
Vig., Vigorish – Casino profit, fee or edge
VIP - Very Important Person – a high roller or high-profile person in a casino
Wager - A bet
Washing or Card Washing – Placing all the cards in a deck face down on a table and mixing them up by spreading them around on the table before gathering them up and shuffling. This is a method of cutting sequences in decks produced through previous play
Whale – Someone who makes huge bets, different to a high roller who may make $100 or $200 regular bets; a 'whale' may make regular bets of tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of dollars per round
White meat – means profit
Wild Card – Joker or other nominated card which can be declared any other card to complete a hand
Wired cards or Back-to-Back – A pair, three of a kind or four of kind dealt consecutively or back-to-back in a hand, typically in a stud hand beginning with the first card
