Betfair Australia back the Queensland Reds

Betfair, the world’s largest internet betting exchange, will be the new name on the turf at the Suncorps stadium – and on the all the rest of the in-stadium signage, too!

Betfair last week became the official sponsor of Australian Rugby Union, brokering a deal that is rumoured to be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. Part of the two-year deal will see Betfair become the sponsor of the Queensland Reds and the official wagering partner of Queensland Rugby Union.

It is an extension of Betfair’s existing, and already impressive, involvement in Australian sport: their sponsorship deals with Cricket Australia and Aussie Rules side Geelong Cats have already made them a familiar name to sports fans.

The Reds, who finished 5th in last year’s Super 14s, are pleased with the deal, as chief executive Jim Carmichael says: “Betfair has been involved with the Australian Rugby Union for several years. Their decision to go beyond that agreement to also sponsor the Reds speaks volumes for their support of the Queensland Reds and the code in general.”

And it seems like Betfair are confident the deal will bring their brand to a new market: “this new partnership will help broaden our awareness nationally, but crucially in the Queensland market. We believe the Reds will help raise our profile and our role in promoting responsible gambling in all sectors,” explains chief executive Andrew Twaits.

If you fancy a flutter on the Queenslanders this season, head on over to Betfair – they are currently top of the pile in the Australian Conference, with five wins out of six games...
