Are The Casinos Taking To The Skies?

We don’t know about you, but we’re pretty average fliers. It’s not that we’re worried particularly about falling out of the sky like a stone.

It’s just that it’s a bit dull, sitting in a seat that’s (inevitably) not that comfortable, and staring at the seat in front. There have, of course, been improvements in recent years that have made things more bearable – seat-back TVs have become the standard, and developed into proper media centres. But what would we give to get up, have a wander around, get a drink, and play a hand or two of Blackjack?

It sounds like a pipe dream, but it could be that some airlines take air travel in that direction. It seems to us to be an ultra-luxury version of the air travel we’ve come to know and hate, but there are a couple of French aviation designers keeping the bar-in-the-sky dream alive.

The pair (who have a couple of the best names we’ve seen this year) are Frederique Houssard and Jean-Pierre Alfano – and their aim is this: ‘we’re trying to bring back the glamour of the 50s and 60s a little bit, the kind you see in the James Bond movies.’

And whenever you talk about James Bond, mention of the glamour and excitement of the casino is never far behind. It’s the online casinos that have made the leap possible, working hard to bring innovation and earning enough success to convince other industries that there are Online Pokies and casino fans everywhere around the world, and in significant numbers.

We’ve suspected for a while that when wireless internet access finally arrives on planes, then mobile casinos will see an increase in their business.

Even better would be a real casino to enjoy. And all of this, of course, is especially good from the point of view of Australian pokie-lovers, who face – just because we live in a huge country that’s miles from anywhere else, and the fact that our cities are so far apart – the prospect of several hours on a plane pretty regularly: journeys that would be made all that much sweeter by the chance to enjoy a proper casino experience in-flight...
